Opening of the Nomination Period for The Distinguished and Innovative Farmer Award 2nd session, 2018
Nahayan Mabarak: Khalifa Bin Zayed supported 10 years of the award process with distinction and success
Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, The General Secretariat opened nomination period for Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation in its 11th session 2018, as well as the nomination period for The Distinguished and Innovative Farmer Award in its 2nd session 2018 starting from the beginning of June 2018 till the 30th of October, 2018 during which all the farmers, producers, researchers academics and lovers of Dates Palm and Agricultural Innovation at the local and International level may apply to compete and win in one of the categories of the International Award or the Local Award.
This was announced during the press conference held by the Award General Secretariat on Monday 14th of May, 2018 in Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi in the presence of Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Secretary General of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation,Dr. Helal Al Kaabi, member of the Award Board of Trustees and Musallam Obaid Ba Al Khales Al Ameri.,Chief Executive Officer of Al-Foah Co.
Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid pointed out that the graph of the Award after ten years is steadily growing at various levels, thanks to the sponsorship of H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE (Sponsor of the Award); the support of H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; the keenness of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs; and the supervision of H.H.Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance and President of the Award’s Board of Trustees, as the great openness to the local, regional and international community led to the best results in increasing the number of candidates in various categories of the Award during the past ten years.
Moreover, the General Secretary focused on the keenness of H.H Sheikh Nahayan in enhancing the local and international presence of the Award and depending upon the achievements made during the past ten years for the benefit and appreciation of all farmers, producers and researchers in the field of Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation in UAE and the world.
On the other hand, Dr. Helal Al Kaabi, member of the Award Board of Trustees pointed out that the total number of the candidates in various categories of the Award was 1179 representing 48 countries around the world. 61 out of them won. The number of the Arabic candidates in the Award was 1026 representing 20 Arab countries and 35 out of them won. In addition, the number of the UAE candidates was 93 and 18 nationals out of them won. The number of the foreign candidates was 153 representing 28 countries around the world and 8 out of them won. Furthermore, 44 senior persons and national and international organizations were honored among them 19 persons from the UAE.
Dr. Helal added that the highest participation rate over the last ten years from the Arab countries was from Egypt with 230 participants, followed by Saudi Arabia with 131 participants, followed by Iraq with 128 participants, and Algeria ranked fourth with 110 participants, while the UAE ranked fifth among the Arab participants in the award with 93 participants over the last ten years. At the global level, India has the highest participation rate over ten years with 35 participants, followed by America with 16 participants and Pakistan with 13 participants.
At the group level, the category Distinguished Innovative Studies and Modern Technology achieved the highest participation rate until now among the other categories, since the total number of its candidates was 586. The category of the Pioneering Development and Productive Projects was ranked second with 183 candidates, while the Pioneering and Sophisticated Innovations Category was ranked third with 182 candidates and the category of the Influential Figure was ranked fourth with 160 candidates and the best production was ranked fifth with 68 candidates.
On the other hand, Musallam Obaid Ba Al Khales Al Ameri,Chief Executive Officer of Al-Foah Co., paid tribute to the cooperative participation from the farmers in the UAE in the most Distinguished and Innovative Farmer Award in its first session; and the results achieved from it. The winners were well deserved to win the award for the Excellency of their produced dates as well as the application of the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and environmental protection besides the application of all terms and conditions according the international best practices.
Finally, the General Secretariat of the award announced that all the technical and administrative preparations were completed for receiving the online applications as of the 1st of June 2018 till 31st of October, 2018. The names of the winners shall be announced by February, 2019 and the honoring ceremony shall be held by March, 2019.
